Before Midnight - We are so important to some, but we are just passing through

Jesse and Celine fell in love Vienna in 1994, but they didn't see each other again after 9 years when they got reacquainted in Paris. 9 years from their encounter in Paris, Jesse and Celine are together now. They are not married, but they have 2 kids now. It surprising to see they are finally together after 18 years. They should've been together since the first day they met, but they didn't keep contact. It is almost unbelievable for them to get back together after all they've been through, because their relationship was like a one-time thing only.

Other than being a father of his 2 daughters, Jesse is also the father of Hank, his son with his ex wife. As Celine wanted to stay closer with her mom, Jesse has been living in Europe with Celine and their daughters. In this summer, they have a vacation in Greece for 6 weeks. Hank joined the trip with them, and he said this is the best summer of his life. However, Hank had to leave early, because he was going to start school soon back in Chicago. Jesse is upset when Hank is gone. He wants to spend more time with his son as he won't be able to do all those things with his son when Hank grows up. Jesse is thinking about moving his family back to the states, but Celine has reservation about the decision. Celine wants to get back to job market as she has found her dream job, so she wants to stay in France. That is why they start bickering.

Them being together is like too good to be true, because they seem like a perfect couple from the very beginning. They are supposed to be a loving pair when they are together, but they are not. Both of them believe that they have sacrificed a lot to make the relationship and the whole family work. Up till now, it seems they don't enjoy being in this relationship and it's not as romantic as before. Have they changed? Not really. In this relationship, Jesse has always been the rational one while Celine is the emotional one. They should've known how contrasting they are since the very beginning. However, they still managed to iron out their differences and made the most romantic night they've had when they were in Paris.

Are they better together? Even when they are together, they don't really live happily ever after. They start arguing more often than before. Their relationship appears to be romantic on the outside, but they have got a whole lot of beefs about their partner. Welcome to the club, and this is the real life. It is hard to be romantic all the time. Love is about give and take. If one insists, another one better gives in. They have to make compromises in order not to break the relationship. If the couples are really meant to be, one will surely find way to make it up and reconcile.
