Dune - A great man doesn't seek to lead; he is called to it

Arrakis is a desert planet, but it is full of spice, a drug that can give one longer lifespan and better consciousness. Arrakis has always been a habitation for Fremen, skilled fighters in desert. Harkonnen wants to control the source of spice, so they have taken over the planet.

House Atreides is ruled by Duke Leto. Leto and his wife Lady Jessica have a son called Paul. Since he was young, Paul has gone through lots of physical and mental training. With the Bene Gesserit training, he starts to have visions of future. He is not sure whether the vision is real, but he feels like something bad is about to happen. House Atreides is commanded by the Emperor, Shaddam, to take control of Arrakis. Indeed, this is the Emperor's secret plan to eradicate House Atreides. Duke Leto knows how risky the mission is, but he cannot refuse the Emperor's order.

Fast-forward to time when House Atreides arrives Arrakis. They meet Dr. Liet-Kynes, and she tells them the danger of harvesting spice and teaches them how to survive in desert. Paul is a bit out of it due to the exposure of spice. His life is almost at risk when a Harkonnen agent tries to assassinate him. The assassination foreshadows something big and deadly is coming for the House of Atreides, because Harkonnen wants more than killing just the future leader. Baron Vladimir Harkonnen has confined Yueh's wife and threatened him to disable the shield, thus allowing their troop to invade secretly. Without the shield, Harkonnen is able to control the Place within a short time. Though Yueh has captured Leto, Vladimir not only not releasing his wife but kills Yueh. Before the death of Leto, he bites his tooth to release poisonous gas to kill some Harkonnen forces, because Yueh had secretly inserted one in his tooth. As Yueh doesn't want the House fall because of the death of Leto, so he has packaged everything Paul and Lady Jessica needs when they flee.

Paul and Lady Jessica are captured by Harkonnen, but they are able to control the force using 'The Voice', so they can survive and fly away to find Dr. Liet-Kynes with Duncan, Paul's trainer who was able to escape from the slaughter. However, Harkonnen is soon able to locate where they are and send another batch of army to kill them. Someone has to sacrifice in order for Paul and Lady Jessica to escape, so Duncan hold the door and gets killed. Dr. Liet-Kynes plans to sneak out separately but gets ambushed by Sardaukar. As she is a Fremen so she lures the sandworm to get drowned in sand with spice blow. Paul and Lady Jessica continue their journey to find Fremen. They have arrived in deep desert and find a group of Fremen and Chani, a girl that he has shown up in his dream multiple times lately. A Fremen, Jamis, doesn't think Paul is the savior, so he challenges Paul a ritual duel. In Paul dream, he had dreamt that he might get killed in this duel, but he survives in reality and wins the duel by killing Jamis. Lady Jessica still has reservation whether to follow Fremen, but Paul insists to go with them, because his father has always wanted to make alliance with Fremen.
