Elvis - When things that are too dangerous to say, sing
Elvis Presley was a musical legend of his generation, and the movie is about his rise and fall from stardom. Raised in a black neighborhood, he was obsessed with black music and had a great singing voice from a young age. Parker, a carnival manager, saw his potential and sex appeal, so Parker offered to take his family out of poverty. Elvis signed the contract and allowed Parker to take care of his career. Convinced by Parker that being single would be better for his image, Elvis reluctantly broke up with his girlfriend.
Elvis Presley began captivating audiences with his unique singing and dancing style. Some conservatives saw his performances as a challenge to racial segregation and considered him as a negative influence on young people. To avoid further trouble, Elvis was drafted into the US Army. While there, he met Priscilla Beaulieu, daughter of a pilot. She accompanied him during a difficult time following his mother's death. After his discharge, he starred in various films, but not all performed well at the box office. He was told to change his dancing style, as it was controversial. He tried to tone down his performance to appease his critics, but the fans were disappointed by his new image, because he had changed in a bad way. After Martin Luther King's assassination, Elvis felt he could be more outspoken politically and performed a new song, "If I Can Dream," in a Christmas special. Contrary to Parker's expectations, the show was a huge success, even though they did receive complaints. Elvis wanted to do a world tour, but Parker suggested a local tour instead and signed a multi-year deal for him at the International Hotel. Elvis was fed up with Parker's manipulation but couldn't cut ties with him. It was revealed that Parker did not have a proper visa to leave the states, so he could not travel outside legally. That was also one of the reasons why Parker had been preventing Elvis from doing a global tour. Parker's manipulation on him was already across the board, so there was nothing else he could do but played along with his plan. He had a daughter with Priscilla, but their relationship deteriorated and they eventually divorced. He turned to drugs in his devastation and died of heart disease.
Elvis was a talented singer, but he was manipulated by Parker the whole time. He wanted to do more, but Parker's control over him prevented him from achieving his full potential. Parker only viewed Elvis as his puppet and he had been trying to exploit Elvis for his own gains. Parker didn't treat Elvis well and didn't even fulfill his initial promises. He could have lived more happily without him. His personal life was indeed a tragedy. It's undeniable that Elvis couldn't have become a superstar without Parker, but Parker should be the one of those to be blamed for the demise and death of Elvis.
