Encanto - You're exactly what this family needs
Fifty years ago, Pedro Madrigal and his wife, Alma, fled from the country due to the war. To protect his wife and children, Pedro got in the way of the army and sacrificed himself. A candle was left behind and it had brought magical power to the family of Madrigal since then.
Mirabel is the granddaughter of Alma, but she doesn't possess any magical power. All her sisters, parent, aunt and uncle have their own special power, so Mirabel is the exceptional one. Mirabel's cousin, Antonio, is going to reveal his magical gift, but he is afraid that he would get no gift like Mirabel. Being encouraged by Mirabel, Antonio steps up and is gifted the power of talking with animals, which fits his affection for animals. It's such a joyful party, until Mirabel notices that the floor is cracking and the candle's flame is about to go out. Abuela knows that day is about to come, but she doesn't want to panic the crowd, so she assures everyone that nothing has happened. Being neglected, Mirabel still wants to protects the family she loves, so she starts asking her family whether they have any idea about what might happen. Luisa points her to the tower of tío Bruno. In his room, Mirabel finds the vision Bruno left behind and realizes she might be the one to ruin the family, the magic and everything. She originally wants to keep it as a secret for the time being, because that's supposed to be the day when Isabela gets engaged with Mariano. However, the Casita starts crumbling down even before the proposal, and everyone freaked out. Mirabel discovers a secret entrance by accident and she finds Bruno. Everyone thought Bruno had left the house, but indeed he has been hiding somewhere inside the house. He didn't want the family know his vision, so he disappeared to protect Mirabel. Mirabel thinks there's a bright side in his vision, so she asks him to create another vision. This time, there's a butterfly, and when Mirabel and Isabel hug, the house stops cracking. Knowing how to put the house together, Mirabel asks Isabel to hug it out, but she refuses. It turns out Isabel isn't mad about Mirabel ruining the proposal, because she doesn't love him at all. She is just tired of being the perfect girl and doing all the things she didn't enjoy at all. Mirabel lets her know that it's perfectly fine to be imperfect, so she decides to embrace her imperfect self. Seeing Isabela turning to someone she is unfamiliar with, Abuela blames ungifted Mirabel for causing all the troubles. Mirabel confronts with Abuela and calls her out for being the one for tearing the family apart by pressuring every family member. Casita collapses and the candle dies out while they are at odds, and Madrigals lose all their magical power in no time.
Mirabel is upset, because she failed to save the family. Abuela comes to find her and takes responsibility for what she has done and apologizes for mistreating her just because she doesn't have any gift. What makes the family enchanting is not really their magical power, it's the family. Abuela has been so caught up on the magic given by the candle but neglected Mirabel. She regarded Mirabel as a stigma in the family and worried that she's going to break the family. After Pedro died, Abuela has taken up the responsibility to take care of the children and the whole family. She has high expectations on her family, so she unknowingly put pressures on everyone of them. She wants to everything to be as perfect as she planned, because she can't bear losing the family again. However, she has gone too far that things start to backfire. Living in the shadow of her family, Mirabel always gets neglected. However, Mirabel is also the only one who is willing to stand up against Abuela, because she loves her family so much.
Though the house is collapsed, townspeople help the family to rebuild the house together. When Mirabel put the doorknob back, her family and Casita regain the magical power again.
