Everything Everywhere All at Once - Every new discovery is just a reminder we're all small and stupid

Evelyn and Waymond own a laundromat and a daughter called Joy. They are Chinese immigrants so they sometimes speak their own language. Evelyn communicates with her father Gong Gong in Cantonese, while she communicates with Waymond in Mandarin, and she communicates with her daughter in English. Being raised in a conservative family, Joy, on the other hands, is quite open-minded and receptive. Joy wants to introduce her girlfriend to her grandfather, but Evelyn doesn't allow her to do so, because Evelyn knows how conservative Gong Gong is. Evelyn then just introduces Joy's girlfriend as a normal friend, which upsets Joy. Evelyn, Waymond and Gong Gong meets Deirdre in the IRS office, because they have to deal with the internal audit things for their laundromat. In the elevator, Waymond becomes Alpha-Waymond and explains that he is from another parallel universe. Evelyn later follows his instructions with the headset on to jump to another universe to meet Alpha-Waymond and learn that Alpha-Evelyn was influential but is dead now. Alpha-Evelyn was the one to invent verse-jumping, which is by doing bizarre things a person can access the counterpart's skills and emotions in the multiverse. Every decision she made or didn't made might cause another branch in this multiverse, so verse-jumping allows her to connect herself in another universe. When Alpha-Waymond disappears, Waymond tells Evelyn that he wants a divorce. Alpha-Joy was pushed by Alpha-Evelyn too hard to practice verse-jumping that she has become Jobu Tupaki, a evil woman who wants to destroy every universe with the bagel she created. Alpha-Gong Gong sees Jobu Tupaki as a threat to humankind, so he asks Evelyn to kill her. Evelyn wants to save her own daughter, rather than killing her, so she decides to gain more power by repeated verse-jumping. Alpha-Gong Gong commands his gangs to kill Evelyn, but she is able to defeat all of them with her newly-gained power. Jobu Tupaki has left the body of Joy and killed Alpha-Waymond in the Alpha-Verse.

Evelyn's mind begin to splinter just as Jobu Tupaki and verse-jumps across the multiverse. Jobu reveals that she didn't create the bagel to destroy the universe, she just wanted to destroy herself. Jobu can't find any accompaniment throughout her adventure, so she wants Evelyn to agree that nothing matters. Being persuaded by Jobu, Evelyn starts to act ruthlessly across the multiverse and almost enters the bagel with Jobu. What changes her mind is the kindness shown by Waymond. Waymond defends her in every universe, even though how messed up she is. Evelyn has managed to convince Jobu to leave the bagel. Evelyn alson confronts Gong Gong and stand up for herself and daughter.

After all the chaos, they are back to their own universe. They are in the IRS office again, but this time the relationships among them are much better. Deirdre is also impressed by their hard work on making the bills right.

With everything that we have to deal with from our day-to-day life, we might just get tired of it. Why can't we just put everything behind us as if nothing really matters? This may get you thinking what the purpose of life is if the world is that chaotic. To enjoy the life, it's not to wave everything off but to be present and live in the moment.
