Gone with the Wind - Frankly, my dear, I don't give a damn
Scarlett and her family live in Tara, a plantation in Georgia. Their family owns lands and servants, so they are kind of a noble family. Scarlett has always loved Ashley. Knowing he is going to marry his cousin, Scarlett is shocked. In the engagement party, Scarlett meets Ashley and Melanie. Melanie is so kind to her, even Scarlett is trying to be mean. Scarlett confronts Ashley saying that she loves him so much but gets rejected right away. Rhett Butler overhears their conversation and is attracted to her. In the middle of the party, there's a presidential announcement that calls for volunteers to fight for the Southern army. To defend the South, most of the men in the party wants to get enlisted. To get back at Ashley for rejecting her, Scarlett marries Melanie's brother, Charles, before he joins the fight. Soon after the war started, Charles gets killed in the battlefield, and Scarlett has then become a widow. To cheer Scarlett up, her mom suggests her lives with Melanie in Atlanta. Scarlett still loves Ashley, so she thinks this might be a good opportunity for her to get him back. Despite the fact that she is still in the mourning of her lost husband, she goes to the party and dances with Rhett.
After the Battle of Gettysburg, Confederacy is at a disadvantage in the civil war. Scarlett works in the hospital to help take care of the wounded army for some time before she can't put up with seeing dead people all over the place. She is about to go back to Tara, but she knows she has to stay to take care of pregnant Melanie, because she has promised Ashley to look after his wife when he's not there. With the help of Scarlett and her servant, Melanie is able to deliver her child. As the town is going to be conquered by the Yankees, they decide to flee back their home in Tara. Rhett accompanies them for a while before returning back to join the force to fight back the Yankee. Against all odds, they make it to Tara. Scarlett is delighted for seeing her family again but saddened by the death of her mother. Though Georgia is still safe, their resources have been robbed by the Yankee already. To survive, not only the servants but the girls have to work to get themselves fed. They also need to deal with the looters and carpetbagger. Scarlett even shoots one dead to protect her family. Scarlett's father gets killed when the horse trips while he is chasing the carpetbagger.
The civil war came to an end when General Lee surrendered. Ashely returns to Tara and reunites with Melanie and Scarlett. Scarlett is still fond of him, so she asks if he wants to elope with her and start a new life together. He rejects Scarlett, because he truly loves Melanie. Learning that heavy tax is imposed on Tara, Scarlett is frightened, because they don't have enough money to pay the tax. Therefore, she dresses up and meets Rhett. Learning that Scarlett is only after his money but not really into him, Rhett dismisses her. On her way back, she meets her younger sister Suellen's fiancé, Frank Kennedy. She know he is rich now, so she tells him that him that her sister is tired of waiting him and seduces him into marry her instead. This is her second marriage, but he is also not the one that she truly loves. One day, she gets attacked by the gang when riding alone. To get back at them, Ashley, Rhett and Frank plan a raid. Unfortunately, Frank gets killed in the conflict. Therefore, Scarlett becomes a widow again. In her mourning, Rhett approaches him and proposes to her, and she says yes.
Shortly after their marriage, they have a daughter, Bonnie. Rhett wants to have another child, but Scarlett doesn't want to have another one, because of the damages that would do to her body. Even this is her third marriage, her love interest is still Ashley. One day, she is having a sweet talk with Ashley at work and they are spotted hugging one another by his sister, India. Now, there's a rumor going around that these two are having illegal affair. Rhett knows that Scarlett doesn't want to go to Ashley's birthday party because of the rumor, but he forces her to go alone anyway. After returning home, they have a fight about their marriage, because Rhett believes she has never truly cared about him. To end the fight, Rhett takes her to bed forcefully. They had a great night, but they didn't reconcile. He takes Bonnie with to go on a trip to London.
Bonnie misses home, so Rhett return back to Tara and drops his daughter home after some time. Scarlett has been so lonely, so she wants him to stay, but he doesn't feel the same way. While they're fighting, Scarlett trips and falls down a flight of stairs, which results in miscarriage. When she is recovering, Rhett has been at her side. They kind of bond over their love of their daughter until something bad happened. Bonnie falls off from riding the pony, just like her grandfather. Both of them are not good riders and have their life taken by riding horse. Bonnie is almost the only thing that connects Scarlett and Rhett. Without her, their relationship begins to die. Melanie has been trying to have a baby, even though she've been told not to do so. Unfortunately, she has complication while carrying the child, which results in her death. Her last word to Scarlett is to help her take care of her husband and be kind to Rhett. She has been dreaming this day to come, so she can marry Ashley. However, she doesn't feel like that way when Melanie passes away. Ashley has always been Scarlett's love interest, but he doesn't reciprocate her love. Being dismissed by Scarlett again and again, Rhett has been demoralized in getting her attention, so he decides to leave her for good. At this moment, Scarlett finally realizes who is the one who cares her, so she decides to get him back.
Scarlett has been a spoiled egocentric kid since she was young. She knows she wants Ashley, so she has tried all sorts of ways to get him, from marrying his cousin to make him jealous to moving in to live with his wife. However, the war has changed everything. Her family has almost lost everything from the war, so she has to toughen up in the wartime to defend her whole family. Since then, she has become more mature to take up the responsibility of breadwinner. Having said that, Scarlett hasn't really grown mature in any relationship. She has married 3 different guys, but she doesn't have a strong feeling for any of them at the moment when she decided to get married. She only wants to gain something out of every marriage, and it's not love. Though Rhett doesn't seem like a serious man, he is the one who truly loves Scarlett from the very beginning. It's a pity when Scarlett learns that she has fallen in love with Rhett eventually, it's already too late because he has lost his patience.
