Hollywood Stargirl - That just 'cause it doesn't look like you thought it would doesn't mean you're not living your dream

As her mom gets a new gig in California, Stargirl and her mom relocate to California. Relocation means they have to leave everything behind and start a new life here. They rented an apartment owned by Daphne, who is a mother of 2 sons. As it is a small neighborhood, Stargirl meets her youngest son, Evan, when he overhears her singing in the bedroom. Evan and his elder brother, Terrell, want to create their own sizzle reel and they need an actress and a music composer. Evan sees the talent of Stargirl, so he invites her to create music for the film and act in a leading role. Later, Stargirl is invited by Evan to a bar to meet with Terrell. Hollywood is place where popular music and movies are created and stars are born. In the bar, she is able to enjoy wonderful live performance. To thank his invitation, Stargirl sings on the stage and dedicate the song to Evan. In the bar, she notices that Roxanne Martel is there. Roxanne only released an album and disappeared, but Stargirl and her mom are big fans of her music. Meeting Roxanne reminds Stargirl that one of her songs might be suitable for their sizzle reel, so they reach out to her and ask her permission of using her song in the video. She rejects, but she is willing to lend them the instruments to create their own song. As what Roxanne had expected, they pull it off and have an original song for the sizzle reel. Roxanne likes what they have created, so she also offers them a studio to record the song.

There's also a grumpy neighbor, Mr. Mitchell, living a floor below Stargirl. He complains Stargirl for making noise at night. However, Stargirl isn't mad at him. Instead, she sends him a pair of headphone. Later on, Mr. Mitchell opens up about his personal life. He reveals that he was an producer and has experience of producing numerous movies. Knowing that the kids are going to make a short video, he gives her an old model of camcorder. As they don't have money to develop films if they film it with his camcorder, Stargirl returns the it to him. He really wants to help them create a quality video, so he insists her on selling it and buy the necessary equipments for filming. They manage to put it together and make a session for their family and friends to enjoy the video they've worked together to make it happen. When it is done, Terrell beings to send it out to the producer, but they haven't got any feedback not until someone calls them. A company is interested in what they are making and intends to offer them a million budget to create the whole film.

Everything is going well until Stargirl's mom tells her that she got fired. She needs a job to support the family, so she is thinking taking the offer in Berkeley, which means they have to move again. Stargirl is so mad at her, because she promised they wouldn't be going anywhere before high school graduation. Her mom likes to avoid the problem, because it's easier to ignore than dealing with it. She worked in LA before, but she got fired, so she left.

Stargirl is really one of a kind, which can't be replaced by anyone else. She has a big heart when treating with others and has a passion for what she is doing. She makes friends with her grumpy neighbors and a one-hit wonder singer. She eventually inspires them to pick up where they left and begin pursuing their dreams. Seeing how much Stargirl would miss her friends in the neighborhood and how talented she is when performing stage, her mom decides to stay in LA with her.

Just 'cause it didn't go the way you wanted it to, doesn't mean you shouldn't have done it.
I screwed this up. Okay? I know I did. I screwed it up a lot. But you're great. You're so great. You are, like, the most alive person I've ever met. (SIGHS) I stress out about not being able to support us or take care of you. I just... I look at you, I think, "I made her, and she's so extraordinary." So at least I did that right. I have done so many things wrong in my life, but thank God the thing that mattered most turned out the best. I think about how hard it must be to have a kid. And how much harder it must be to do it alone.
