Inside Out 2 - I'm a good person
Two years after moving to San Francisco, Riley has adapted to the new environment. She has new friends and still plays hockey at school. Inside her mind, Joy, Sadness, Anger, Fear, and Disgust are still there to control her emotions. Joy wants Riley to stay happy, so she develops a machine to ditch all the unhappy memories. However, they need to find a way to keep Sadness from sabotaging the machine.
Ridley and her friends won the school competition and were invited to a hockey camp at a high school. Ridley is excited to play with the Firehawks team and her best friends. However, she is disappointed when she learns that her friends are not choosing the same high school, and this might be their last time playing hockey together. At the hockey camp, Ridley misbehaves in the changing room and gets everyone punished. The new emotions think Ridley should team up with Val, the captain of the Firehawks team, so that it's likely for her to get into the team later. The new emotions force the old emotions out, so Joy, Sadness, Fear, Anger, and Disgust embark on a journey to retrieve Ridley's old sense of self.
Ridley is desperate to know if she has a chance of making the team. Anxiety takes over, and Ridley sneaks into the coach's room to look at her notebook. Devastated to learn that the coach doesn't think she's ready, Ridley decides to play the final game with everything she has. But her focus on scoring causes her to injure a teammate and get penalized. Ridley begins to doubt her ability and has a nervous breakdown on the court.
Joy and her friends have returned to headquarters, where they are ready to restore Riley's old sense of self. However, Joy knows that Riley is growing up and needs to develop a new sense of self. So Joy removes the old sense of self and allows Riley to grow a new one. Riley is able to stop the breakdown and reconcile with her old friends. This new sense of self will allow Riley to deal with the challenges of growing up and becoming an adult.
Riley tries too hard to impress Val and her teammates by imitating them. But friends should be true to each other. Our ultimate goal is to be joyful, but we do not have to be joyful all the time when we do not feel like it. We have to embrace other emotions and show them out. It is okay to not be okay. We do not have to suppress other emotions for the sake of joy. Each emotion plays a role in our life, and we have to learn and understand it. Joy is not the only emotion that is good for us. Sadness, anger, and fear are also important emotions that help us grow as individuals. We need to embrace all of our emotions, and not just the ones that feel good.
