Love, Simon - Maybe we could still be friends, you know?
Simon is an ordinary boy in high school, except he has a big secret. He does not dare to share it with his friends fearing that might change the friendship. One day, someone called Blue suddenly comes out on the school's secret page. Simon thinks he is just like Blue, so he sends an email to him. Everything goes well in their email exchange, because both of them have not come out publicly. Therefore, it is fair to say that they are experiencing the same struggle. Simon is dying to know who Blue is, because he is crushing hard on Blue. However, Blue does not want to reveal his identity, because he is not ready to change his world. His weird classmate, Martin accidentally finds out Simon is gay from his emails to Blue. To keep Martin's mouth shut, Simon agree to fix him up with his friend, Abby. To help Martin get Abby, Simon tries to dissuade Nick from confessing his love to Abby. Simon comes out to one of his friend's, Abby. She is a bit surprised, but nothing is gonna change for their friendship. Martin is madly in love with Abby, so he professes his love but he does it awkwardly. He ends up being rejected, and he is being teased by his classmates on the secret page. To escape from the attention, Martin reveals the secret of Simon being gay. This leaves Simon no choice but to come out publicly and to his family. It is actually not that bad as he had expected, but his friends are now mad at him. Simon had been making up lies to cover up his huge secret at the expense of his friends, because he just could not imagine what would happen if somebody finds out he is gay. Meanwhile, Blue decides to delete his email account, because he does not want to expose his identity. However, Simon does not want to throw away his relationship with Blue, so he needs to find out who Blue is.
It seems unfair for having gay people to come out only. Everything will be so much easier if the society does not have a default sexual orientation for both men and women. Coming out is probably the scariest moment, because it is going to change your life. But remember, you are still going to be you. People may change their attitudes towards you, but there is nothing to do with you at all.
