Moonshot - You're the adventure

Walt is an ordinary student at the college and has a part-time gig as an assistant barista. He has always had a dream of visiting Mars, so he has been applying the Mars Program continuously. Though being rejected for 37 times, he hasn't given up on his dream and keep rambling on his dream with his friends. In a party, he meets Sophie, a girl with her boyfriend living on Mars now. He wants to talk about his dream with her, but he accidentally breaks her orb. Later that night, he meets another girl called Ginny. She is about to embark her space journey the next day, so she has only one night here before leaving. Though it's just a one-night thing, Walt takes Ginny out and shares his stories with her before she heads out the very next morning. Even just for spending only one night with Ginny, Walt has developed feelings for her. While working at the cafeteria, he bums into Sophie and realizes she is feeling alone for not seeing her boyfriend for a while. Being convinced by Walt, Sophie decides to buy a ticket to go into space. Walt follows Sophie to farewell her before she gets into the rocket. Walt takes this opportunity to sneak into the escape pod, so he is going to space too.

Sophie is surprised to see Walt in the spaceship but not in a good way. She doesn't want to get in trouble of assisting someone in trespassing, so she helps him with hiding his real identity. Sophie asks Walt to pose as Calvin in the spaceship and doesn't allow him to leave the room to avoid any suspicion. As they have been spending time together at the very same room for a couple days, Sophie and Walt grow closer. They start to open up about themselves and share more about their family and dream. Walt is asked to give a presentation on terraforming as someone has discovered that this is Calvin's expertise. Walt apparently knows nothing about terraforming, but instead he gives a presentation of not terraforming yourself just for someone else, which convinces a couple to get engaged and Sophie to rethink what she wants to do with her own life.

Sophie's parents died when she was young, so she has been adopted by Calvin's family since then. Calvin and his family are almost everything to her life, which she has been following them for a long time. She knows how important Calvin's family is to her, so she has to stop helping Walt to avoid any unnecessary charges pressed against her. Walt's real identity gets exposed upon his arrival on Mars and gets arrested immediately. However, Leon, the leader of the Mars program, agrees to let Walt live here as he can see the potential marketing value of Walt's story. Walt is a mediocre barista with almost no special talent at all, but he still manages to go on a space journey against all odds. He has been wanting to explore space since he was little, but it doesn't really excite him much even when he is living on Mars. He feels like he is still doing the same thing as what he did on Earth.

Sophie has finally met Calvin's family on Mars as this is one of her goals of traveling to Mars. She has plans for her life, but she sometimes has to given it up for the sake of his boyfriend. Calvin loves Sophie, but he likes planning things for her before asking for her consent. Sustainability is something she is really into, rather than being a researcher on Mars. She knows she cannot follow others blindly anymore, so she decides to head back to Earth to continue her study. Walt knows she's going to leave by chance, so he sneaks his way back to the shuttle to follow Sophie.

The feeling of living in the same place and doing things repeatedly sucks, and sometimes we just want to move to a new place to start something new. However, relocation doesn't necessarily make you feel better because you may just end up doing the very same thing just in another place. What really matters is who you are doing the stuff with, and being with someone can really change you. That said, we don't have to follow someone blindly. We should have plan for ourselves and live our own life. If your partner is unwilling to meet you halfway, it would just be pointless to be a follower.

Stowing away for an historic journey against impossible odds, secretly facilitated by me, of course, to discover something that just might make his meaningless little life just a smidgeon, just a tickle more meaningful.
Honestly, I thought it would be different. I thought that I would get here and I would be changed or something. But now I'm here and it's exactly the same.
Walt, it doesn't matter how far you travel, you can never escape yourself.
You come in here with no plan at all just expecting everything to magically work out and then somehow, you pull that line out of your ass?
