One Day - Whatever happens tomorrow, we had today
It is a love story between Emma and Dexter over 18 years. On 15 July 1988, Emma meets Dexter the first time. Emma is an ordinary girl, while Dexter is a hot guy. It seems unlikely for them to be together, but it is their graduation day, so Dexter decides to spend a night with her at her house. Emma has a nervous breakdown in front of him, so it kinda puts him off. They end up spooning on one another on bed rather than going all the way. They promise to be one night thing, but eventually they become good friends. They don't see one another much often after growing up, but one will surely give the other one a helping hand when needed. They keep exchanging mails or calls even when they are far apart. Few years later, Dexter's career begins to take off while Emma's career seems to stuck in second gear. She has always wanted to be a writer, but she only ends up being a waitress in a restaurant. While Dexter is traveling around the world, he invites Emma to go on a trip together. It is obvious they are attracted to one another, but Dexter just wants it to be a one night thing. That's not what Emma wants, so she turns it down and agrees to better stay as friends. When Dexter becomes a host of a TV show, the difference between them further grows apart. With time goes by, both of them have met the love of their life separately. Emma get married with Ian, who works with her in the same restaurant, but she grows bored with him and ends up in divorce. Though Dexter has a daughter with Sylvie, their marriage is still a failure. Emma and Dexter had a quarrel before, but they eventually rekindle their friendship. Emma has been on his side when he's grieving on the loss of his mother. By that time, they finally admit their feelings and get engaged soon. They had been living happily together until she passed away in a car accident.
At the end of the movie, it is revealed that they did hang out after literally sleeping together on the very same bed. Dexter originally wanted to invite her to come over his house and have a little fun again, but his parents came home early, which ruined their plan. Instead of leaving her abruptly, Dexter takes the initiative to exchange the numbers, which allows them to continue the friendship, if not relationship. It is so frustrating to see them wasting so many years of time when should be together since the very beginning. Sometimes, love is all about timing. When one has a crush, the other one might not be available. However, if it is true love, the couple will be together eventually even if it takes years of time. It is never too late to start a relationship.
No, no. I'd rather not. Except to say, that I think the best thing that you could do would be to try to live your life as if Emma was still here. Don't you?
