Past Lives - You make my world so much bigger and I'm wondering if I do the same for you?

Na Young and Hae Sung are classmates who are always at the top of their class, and they often compete with each other. Na Young has always been the first in the class, with Hae Sung comes in second. Na Young is upset when Hae Sung beats her in an exam for the first time. Hae Sung tries to cheer her up while walking home with her. Though they are young, they have feelings for one another and promise to marry one day. Their parents even arrange a playdate for them. One day, Na Young announces that her family is moving to America in front of the class. Hae Sung doesn’t want to let go, but he lost contact with her after she migrated.

Twelve years later, Na Young, who now goes by Nora, lives in New York City. Hae Sung has completed his military service. Nora wants to reconnect with her past, particularly her former boyfriend in Korea. She discovers that he has been commenting on her dad’s Facebook page after searching for his name online. She contacts him and has a video call with him for the first time since she moved. The call goes well, and they begin virtually dating by video calling several times a day. They have picked up where they left off, and the chemistry is still there. Nora wants to see him in person, but he can’t come to see her. Nora is so sick of virtual dates, so they decide to take a break. During the break, Nora meets another guy called Arthur. They soon begin living together.

Another twelve years later, Nora is now married to Arthur. Hae Sung decides to go to America and plans to meet Nora there. Nora takes him to see the Statue of Liberty and spends the entire day with him. Nora invites Hae Sung to have dinner with Arthur. Hae Sung doesn’t speak fluent English, and Arthur cannot understand Korean. Nora acts as a bridge between them, translating for both of them. Hae Sung and Nora haven’t spoken to each other in a long time, so they spend most of the night talking. In Korean, there is a concept called ‘In Yun’, which means the encounters of any people in the current life are caused by the countless interactions they had in their past lives. They wonder what their past lives would have been like. Hae Sung wonders if they would have been together if she had never left. Arthur feels like a bystander and the one that gets in the way of Nora and Hae Sung’s relationship. After returning to their house, Hae Sung apologizes for talking with Nora the whole night. It is already too late, so Hae Sung calls for Uber. While waiting for the Uber, Nora stares at Hae Sung in silence for some time. The Uber comes, and they bid farewell. Nora returns home crying.

Despite the years that have passed, Hae Sung clearly has feelings for Nora. They grew up together, but they lost touch after she moved to Korea. The connection between Hae Sung and Nora is undeniable, but Nora is already in a relationship with Arthur. Even though they seem like a perfect match, Nora is simply not the right person for Hae Sung.
