Prom Pact - What if this is my peak?
The story's setting is somewhat typical, with a hard-working female lead and a less motivated male lead. Mandy is a high school student with aspirations of attending Harvard, while her best friend is Ben. Both of them are not very sociable, so they don't receive invitations to parties. In contrast, Graham, the captain of the football team, is a popular and sociable person in the school, with many people wanting to befriend him. LaToya is a popular cheerleader whom Ben has a crush on. The Prom theme for this year is announced to be the 90s. Mandy isn't particularly excited about it since she doesn't plan on attending. However, she knows that Ben wants to go, so she asks him to go to the prom together.
Mandy is devastated when she learns that she has been waitlisted at Harvard. It has always been her dream to study there in order to fight for justice and equality. Her teacher suggests that she find someone to write her a recommendation letter for Harvard, such as Graham's father, who is a senator and an alumni in Harvard. Although Mandy doesn't know Graham well, she is willing to do anything to get into Harvard. She has planned with Ben on how to become friends with Graham and convince his father to write her a letter. They know that Graham is attending a party, so they decide to crash it. They show up uninvited and immediately face teasing from others. Ben manages to have an awkward conversation with LaToya. Realizing that they don't fit in with the crowd, they decide to leave. Mandy overhears that Graham will be doing volunteer service the next day, so she decides to give it another try. The following day, she unexpectedly encounters him and agrees to tutor him in Psychology for free, without expecting anything in return. Graham is easily distracted, so Mandy studies with him while he plays basketball. In return, Graham teaches her how to play basketball. From then on, she tutors him almost every day after school. The more time she spends with Graham, the more she discovers about his true nature. Graham is not just a party-loving and basketball-playing boy. Although he may not have grand ambitions, he is kind-hearted. As Mandy devotes time to tutoring Graham, she finds herself having less time to hang out with Ben. They had originally planned to watch a movie together, but Mandy asks for a rain check. When Ben is about to watch the movie alone, he coincidentally runs into LaToya and ends up watching the movie together. Ben's birthday is approaching, but Mandy has to attend an event with Graham because there's a possibility of meeting Ben's father there. Ben is disappointed that they can't celebrate together as they used to, so Mandy encourages him to invite LaToya for a birthday dinner, and she accepts the invitation. Mandy and Graham both dress up for the event. Finally, Mandy gets to meet Graham's father, but politely declines when he offers to write her a recommendation letter. She realizes that tutoring Graham has been enjoyable, and she doesn't need anything in return. However, she bursts into tears when she overhears that Graham has been secretly seeing another girl. She calls Ben to come pick her up while he's having dinner with LaToya. Ben understands it's an emergency and leaves LaToya to be with Mandy. It turns out that the girl Graham has been secretly seeing is helping him plan a promposal for Mandy, which catches Mandy by surprise. LaToya invites Ben to go to prom with her, but he rejects her because he plans to go with Mandy. However, Mandy has already accepted Ben's invitation. Ben is angry with Mandy because he feels taken for granted, and she hasn't treated him like a best friend should since she started dating Graham. Ben confronts her, and now the whole school knows that she was only dating Graham for the recommendation letter. Graham gives Mandy the letter that his father wrote for her and never sees her again.
Mandy realizes that she has made a huge mistake and decides to make it up to Ben by apologizing outside his house. Before going to prom together, she takes the opportunity to do all the things she promised to do with him. Mandy has asked a teacher to manipulate the voting results, so Ben is crowned Prom King with LaToya as Prom Queen. They reconcile and share a kiss. Mandy is happy for them, and they are happy for Mandy when she learns that she has been accepted to Harvard with the recommendation letters submitted by her teacher. As the salutatorian, Mandy gives a speech at the graduation ceremony, expressing gratitude to Graham for making her final year fulfilling and providing advice based on what Graham taught her about playing basketball. Mandy moves to Boston to study, and Graham takes a gap year to work in Boston as well. They reconcile and share a kiss.
