Stand by Me - I'm in the prime of my youth, and I'll only be young once
The story happens in summer 1959. There's a missing boy in Castle Rock, and no one knows whether he is alive or dead. One day, Vern overhears his brothers find a corpse of the missing boy in the countryside. They don't want the police knows that they'd stolen a car, so they decide to keep it a secret. Vern is so excited about the news, because he and his friends could be heroes for finding the missing boy. Therefore, he tells his friends the secret right away. Gordie, Chris and Teddy are all excited to see a dead body, so they set out to find the missing boy.
Gordie's brother's death has hit Gordie's family so hard. His brother was a talented football player, and he's missed by everyone in town. To his parents, Gordie is not as a good kid as his brother, so he lives in the shadow of him. Sometimes, he feels like his parents want him dead rather than his brother.
Chris is Gordie's best friend. He was born in a infamous family, so he hates always being labelled just because of the reputation of his family. He once stole money from the school. He later admitted his wrongdoing to a teacher, but the teacher betrayed him and called him out while keeping the money.
Vern is probably the shyest guy in the group. He is afraid of everything. He is that well-built for going on an adventure, and he doesn't run fast. On their way finding the missing boy, they have to cross a railroad bridge. The bridge is still being used by some trains, but they don't know when the train will get there. When they cross the bridge, they just bet the train will not get by soon. Vern doesn't run fast, so he falls behind and almost got killed by the running train.
Teddy is very different from Vern. He loves adventures and risky stuff. He dares to take on dangerous challenges. In the journey, he wants to feel like what it is when almost being hit by the train, so he stand on the railroad waiting for the train coming to hit him. Luckily, his friends pull him out before the train crashes on him.
After crossing the railroad bridge and a swamp, they are able to locate the body. They are shocked when they see it, because this is the first time for most of them to see a dead body. Ace and his gang arrive, because they want to claim the body too. They threaten the kids to leave or they'll get hit. Gordie pulls out the gun and orders them to leave the body. Even the gang has left, Gordie and his friends still don't think it's appropriate for them to take credit for finding the missing boy, so they decide to make an anonymous call to the police to inform them the location later on. Years later, they are all grown up. Gordie still misses his friends, especially Chris after hearing him being stabbed to death.
When we're all grown up, our paths just may not cross again. However, the adventures we had and memories will continue to live rent free in our brain. It's just so hard to find a group of friends to go on such a crazy adventure when we're old.
