The Perks of Being a Wallflower - We accept the love we think we deserve

Charlie had always been shy, but he found solace in expressing himself through writing. On his first day of high school, he had trouble making friends, until he connected with his English teacher, Mr. Anderson. He also met Patrick, a senior who loved pulling pranks, at the same class. At a football game, Charlie was swept off his feet when he saw Patrick's step-sister, Sam. Charlie had a lot of fun with Patrick and Sam, attending his first party and getting stoned unintentionally. He also revealed to them that his best friend had committed suicide the year before. They drove through a tunnel, and Charlie sang with them in the car, with Sam standing up. Sam had done poorly on the SATs, so Charlie promised to study with her. As a token of appreciation, she gave him a typewriter and kissed him, wanting his first kiss to be from someone who loves him, though not romantically since she was already with Craig. At a show, Craig was absent, so Charlie had to fill in his place on short notice. Mary Elizabeth, one of the friends in the group, was impressed with his performance and asked him out. Though Charlie wasn't that into her, as she was too talkative, he agreed and they started dating. During a game of truth or dare, Charlie was dared to kiss the prettiest girl in the room, and he kissed Sam, much to everyone's surprise. The situation was awkward, and Charlie was told to stay away from Sam. Patrick's boyfriend, Brad, had been beaten by his dad after he found out about his son's relationship with Patrick. At school, Patrick was teased and beaten up by Brad's friends. To defend his friend, Charlie got into the fight and passed out afterwards. Sam later thanked him for saving her brother, and they became friends again. Patrick and Charlie drank together and Patrick kissed him, but they acted like nothing had happened afterwards. Sam broke up with Craig when she found out he had cheated on her. She was accepted to Penn State University, and the night before she left, she invited Charlie to her room. They professed their love and started making out. Charlie hesitated, as it reminded him of how his aunt had treated him. He had always been haunted by the fact that he had caused her death in a car crash when she was trying to get him a Christmas gift. He had even thought that he might have wanted her dead in the first place, because of the abusive things she had done to him. He started to go crazy and was sent to the hospital. After being released, Patrick and Sam visited him and told him about how great college was. They drove through the tunnel again, and Charlie kissed Sam. Charlie's life had changed drastically since he met Sam and Patrick. They opened him up and brought out the fun side of him. He was no longer the shy little kid who always hid himself. With friends, he can now handle his trauma in a better way. When we're in relationships, it's easy to forget what we deserve. Our partner might not be the ideal match for us, and sometimes we deserve someone better.
