The Worst Person in the World - I always worried something would go wrong, but the things that went wrong were never what I worried about
Julie was a medical student, but she transferred to psychology and then photography when she was bored of the subject. This sums up pretty much what she was like when she was in her 20s. This is a 12-part story of an indecisive girl navigating her love life.
She starts to have relationship with Aksel, a comic artist who is much older than her. They soon move in to live together. Aksel always wants to have children, but Julie doesn't really like children at all. She often has to accompany him to attend events, but she doesn't really bond with his friends. One day, when she is supposed to be a companion with Aksel in an event, she sneaks out and crashes a party. At the party, she meets Eivind, a guy at her age. Both of them are not single, so they are curious to know what is considered to be cheating. They have been trying to do lots of seemingly intimate things that night. When they part their ways the next morning, they let one another know just their first name and nothing else. When they thought the relationship would only last for a night, Eivind bumps into Julie at the bookstore she is working. He is with his girlfriend, but he comes back alone and tells Julie that he works in a restaurant and asks her to find him. Julie's relationship with Aksel is not going well, and she wonders what would happen if she dated Eivind instead. Both Julie and Eivind ditch their partner, and they move in together. Julia and Eivind seem to be a more perfect match as both of them don't want to have children. Later, Eivind finds a piece of article written by Julie and he just wants to praise for how well-written it is, but Julie finds it off-putting. She thinks Eivind has invaded her privacy as it's not meant for him to read. When they are arguing, Julia also tells him bluntly that he doesn't want to be with just a barista. Later, she finds out that she is pregnant but she didn't see that coming. She stumbles upon Aksel's brother at work and learns that Aksel is not doing well. He has been fighting with cancer and doesn't have much time left. Julie then visits Aksel at the hospital and let him know that she is going to be a mother. She is worried that she might not be a good mother, but Aksel comforts her that she would be a great one. They rekindle their friendship. Julie has always been the love of his life, but Julie has moved on.
In the epilogue, Julie has a miscarriage and dumps Eivind and live as a single women with a profession of photography.
Julie has been hopping around throughout her life, from jobs to relationships. She has been indecisive the whole time and made some bad decisions along the way. She is the worst person in the world probably because she only cares about herself. She knows what could make her happier, so she would ditch one and chase the other one. Even she has already in her 30s, she still think of her life as a mess.
