Triangle of Sadness - The last capitalist we hang will be the one who sold us the rope
Carl and Yaya are dating, and both are models. As a matter of fact, female models often earn more than male models. Yaya clearly earns more than Carl does, but she never pays when they dine out. Carl dislikes the stereotype that men should always pay for the bill, causing tension between them in the restaurant.
As an influencer, Yaya and Carl are invited on a cruise ship trip with wealthy Russian guests. These rich guests sometimes make unreasonable requests, but the crew tries to entertain them because of their generous tips. Carl finds it annoying that a crew member hit on his girlfriend, so he complains about the misbehavior. Unbeknownst to him, the crew member gets laid off. Captain Thomas is supposed to be in control, but he spends most of his time drinking in his room. Paula, the head of staff, invites him to the captain's dinner, because he has to be there for the dinner to happen. The yacht faces storm during the captains's dinner. Some of the guests can't help but vomit because of seasickness. Most of the guests just mind their own business while the staff still work hard to ensure safety and cleaniness. During the chaos, the drunk captain has a heated discussion on capitalism and communism with another guest. The next morning, pirates sink the yacht with a grenade.
The yacht is destroyed, but some guests, including Carl and Yaya, survive and land on a deserted island. Most of them lack survival skills, but they are fortunate to have the toilet manager, Abigail to save the day. Abigail knows how to make a fire, hunt and cook. Abigail refuses to share her food with others, despite Paula's command. Abigail agrees to share her food with them when all of them name her as the new captain of the group. As the new captain, she coerces Carl into sleeping with her every night in the lifeboat and give him food as a reward. The other survivors teases him when he comes out of the lifeboat every morning. One day, Yaya wants to explore the other side of the island. Abigail deems it unsafe, so she goes with Yaya. Yaya discovers there's a resort on the other side. Yaya feels like they are about to escape from the island, so she tells Abigail that she can hire her as an assistant. Before they enter the resort, Abigail plans to kill Yaya. At the same time, Carl is running to save Yaya, but it is uncertain if he will arrive in time.
It is ironic how the situation flips when they all end up on the island. On the yacht, the wealthy guests can command anyone to fulfill their demands, even unreasonable ones, because of their money. On the island, they have lost their privilege and their abundance of money is of no significance when they are trying to survive. Meanwhile, the lower class with survival skills rises to power and able to command the upper class to do things.
