Wild Robot - When you grow up without something you... end up spending a lot of time thinking about it
A cargo ship carrying a shipment of ROZZUM robots, produced by Universal Dynamics, is lost at sea during a storm. One robot, Roz, lands on an island. Roz is programmed to assist her owner with tasks, but since she has no owner yet, she begins searching for one. The island's animals perceive Roz as a monster due to her unusual appearance. After some time, Roz learns to communicate with the animals but they remain fearful and do not require her assistance. Roz, realizing that she is not needed on the island, attempts to return to the factory but is struck by lightning and unable to leave. During her time on the island, Roz accidentally destroys a goose nest, leaving only one egg alive.
Roz takes on the responsibility of raising the gosling and names him Brightbill. Fink the fox initially wants to eat the gosling but eventually becomes an ally in Brightbill's upbringing. Roz dedicates herself to teaching Brightbill essential life skills such as eating, swimming, and flying. However, during Brightbill's swimming lessons, he faces rejection from other goslings who don't accept him as one of their own due to his differences. Realizing Roz was responsible for his parents' death, Brightbill is distraught and resentful towards his adoptive mother.
Roz discovered another ROZZUM robot, who advises her to return to the factory because robots shouldn't experience emotions. However, Roz choose to stay and teach Brightbill to fly so he can migrate before winter arrived. She asks a falcon, who has similarly small wings, to instruct Brightbill. Brightbill successfully learns to fly and joins a flock of geese for their migration, but feels saddened that he cannot express his feelings to Roz before leaving.
During his flight to a farm, Brightbill encounters other ROZZUM robots and initially mistakes them for Roz. To prevent the geese from contaminating the farm, the robots initiate an attack. The leader robot sacrifices himself, allowing Brightbill to guide the remaining geese to safety and escape the robot assault.
Roz, unable to return to the factory due to a defect, decides to help other animals survive the winter by inviting them to the shelter. The shelter descends into chaos with predators and prey together, but Fink negotiates a truce. The animals survive the winter, and Roz awakens with the sunshine to Brightbill's return with the other geese.
Universal Dynamics launches an attack to retrieve Roz for research purposes when Brightbill tries to locate her. The animals Roz once helped, band together to fend off the retrieval robots. Despite their efforts, Roz is captured by the retrieval authority, who intend to erase her memory. With Brightbill's assistance, Roz resists and successfully escapes.
Roz returns to the factory to protect the island from Universal Dynamics, knowing she is their only target. Months later, the animals on the island continue to coexist peacefully, and Roz works on the farm. She reunites with Brightbill when he visits her.
Survival is about adaptability and solidarity. Roz mirrors the behavior of other animals to thrive on an island filled with them. Brightbill pushes past his limits, learning to swim and fly to fit into the geese community. Living in a diverse group also boosts survival. Each animal has strengths and weaknesses, and by supporting each other, they become stronger against outside threats.
